When Women Move, Cities Move Forward: Reflections from Women in Motion Agadir

Women have always been part of urban mobility — as the majority of public transport users worldwide, as the workers who keep systems running, as the planners and engineers quietly shaping the cities we all move through. And yet, for decades, transport systems have been designed without their experience at…

From the Border to the Business Register: Women Shuttle Traders in Central Asia

Nearly one in three women engaged in cross-border trade in Central Asia operates informally. A regional initiative, implemented together with the Kurak Women’s Forum and the Association of Customs Brokers of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, set out to change what that invisibility costs them — reaching 235 women across six border…

When Women Mobilize Women, Transport Moves Forward: Stories from Leipzig

Leipzig is where Women Mobilize Women began. In May 2018, around 200 transport experts gathered here for the first global conference on women in transport, under one simple but unsettling idea: “When men plan transport, transport is planned for men.” Out of that day came a network, and out of…
Global Alliance for Feminist Transport

The first global hub on feminist transport and mobility

Women Mobilize Women launched the Global Alliance for Feminist Transport, jointly with Women on the Move and Women in Motion. With this community-based platform, our mission is to unite and empower organizations, networks, and individuals working towards gender-equitable transport systems worldwide. Our shared vision is to act as the leading voice on feminist sustainable transport by providing a spotlight on who, how and what are moving our cities towards greater gender equity in transport and mobility.

Networks Unite

Working together for gender-responsive sustainable mobility

In a significant leap for the global transport sector, different organizations working in the field of gender and mobility – including Safetipin from India, Women on the Move (WotM) from Asia, Mujeres en Movimiento (Women in Motion) from LATAM, and Women Mobilize Women (WMW) announced plans to form a global alliance. This alliance seeks to unite feminist transport initiatives across the world, collectively working towards gender-responsive sustainable transport systems and set a global agenda for the topic looking forward.

Building Feminist Cities Series

The second Building Feminist Cities workshop was held at the Asia and the Pacific Transport Forum 2024 in Manila. Over two sessions, we explored what it means to develop truly inclusive, sustainable transport systems for the 21st century. Thanks to the positive feedback, the next two Building Feminist Cities workshops are already confirmed for this year and will take place in Brasilia and Nairobi.

This event series aims to foster a diverse, global community dedicated to creating more feminist, resilient, and adaptable transport systems capable of handling increasing societal and climate challenges.
