For eight editions, our Remarkable Voices in Transport series has told the stories of the people moving the transport sector forward. Since 2019, seven editions have carried more than 200 profiles, spanning electric mobility, feminist transport policy, women transport workers organising through their unions, and young leaders.
This year, the lens is business. Across the world’s largest companies, women held 6.6 per cent of chief executive posts last year, a record high, and across transport and storage worldwide they hold around 12 per cent of jobs. Those numbers shape who is in the room when the sector decides what gets built, funded, and run. This edition looks at the women changing that, from the ground up.
You will meet women who founded, financed, and now lead mobility companies around the world: engineering batteries for electric motorcycle taxis in Kampala, mapping charging networks in Abuja, leading freight and logistics in Ecuador, running electric public utility vehicles in Manila, building greener logistics out of Jakarta, and rebuilding the bicycle trade as mechanics and workshop owners in Cagliari.
