To move towards a just transition to low carbon transport systems, gender equality is needed. This document publish by the International Transport Forum and the Fia Foundation strenghten awareness on the importance of gender equality, transport, and climate change nexus and provides key principles with specific actions that cities and companies could do while working on the goal of decabornising transport.
Policies for decabonising transport will impact women, other excluded groups, and men differently. Thus, gender equality needs to be at the forefront of transport decarbonization. So far gender equality, transport and climate change challenges have been seen separately. To achieve gender equality while working toward the goals of decabornising transport, integral policies that consider a diverse group of voices need to be created. The guiding principles and actions presented in this document will help cities and companies integrate gender analysis in their decarbonising transport policies and increase women’s participation in the sector.
